ADIDAS, BORN FROM CULTURE

Understanding our own historical heritage contribute to our sense of identity. It enables us to grasp the culture we come from and become our most authentic self.

We want to bring the significance of history and heritage into a new era; inspired by traditional crafts, colours and symbols are narrative.

This project collaborated with ADIDAS in a team of myself Sarah Norgrove, Sam Delaney, Dara Young, Hannah O’Connor and Amanda Lucy.

The project was inspired by four Irish Myths and Legends

Cu Chulainn

Tir Na nOg

The children of Lir

The salmon of knowledge

Each scarf is knit and represents different aspects of the stories through the traditional Irish craft of Aran knit. These different types of knit represent strength, Love, Family and knowledge and correspond with each story being told across the scarfs

Learning CLO 3D

  • Trial 1.

Trial 1. consisted of creating the 2D pattern and forming it in the 3d space in CLO 3D for the first time, trying to understand the software.

  • Trial 2.

I then began to play around with different material textures and applicatuions to see, again what i could do with this software to create different knit applications for this project.

  • Trial 3.

Trial 3. was surrounding different graphic applications and how we might use the applications alongside the knit pieces when creating these scarfs.

Visualising how might the scarf move.

Trial 4.

Visualising how might the scarf move.

Trial 5.

  • Trial 6.

Trial 6. was surrounding the application of the iconic adidas three stripes and the logo itself. I tried to trial, prior to actually creating the scarf graphics so that I wpuld have a better iunderstanding of how the graphics fall and sit on the animation.

  • Trial 7.

Trial 7. was where material thickness finally came into play to give the scarfs their realistic look. Here i needed to firthermore figure out the back panel and how it may be viewed, in colour or a repeat of the pattern.

  • Trial 8.

Finally once aplication of the graphics and the choice of have the knit pattern shine through on the back pannel were chose the garment began to take shape.

Scarves as seen on Adidas models

Here I wanted to get a feel for the scarfs in real-time on actual models to visually communicate the oversized nature of our scarfs.

Packaging

Potential route for social media exposure

We wanted to achieve an all-around border for each image to provide the feeling the scarf would give you when worn.

Telling a story through Colour & Pattern

Pattern and storytelling exploration.

This exploration was surrounding how we may take the project further in exploring different patterns and imbed them into the already iconic story of the three stripes.
